SciTech and Trolltech provide
2D graphics hardware acceleration support for embedded Linux.
Chico, California and Oslo, Norway
-- (September 8, 2003) -- SciTech
Software, Inc. today announced a collaboration with Trolltech
AS
to provide desktop quality 2D graphics acceleration and
incredible chip level compatibility for embedded Linux
developers. As part of the announcement, SciTech
has released SNAP Graphics IES for Qt/Embedded, Trolltech's
embedded Linux
GUI toolkit. Additionally, Trolltech now provides built-in
support for SciTech SNAP. From this release, Qt/Embedded
developers can add native 2D acceleration to their products
by using SNAP's accelerated graphics drivers.
"The release of SciTech SNAP Graphics
IES and the inclusion of a SciTech SNAP shell driver in future
versions of Qt/Embedded is just the tip of the iceberg " said
Andrew Bloo, Director of Sales and Marketing for SciTech
Software Inc. "Industrial embedded systems have been
lacking the power of a desktop environment for too long,
the combination of SciTech SNAP and the industry's leading
Linux-based embedded toolkit will prove to be a major turning
point in the development of next generation systems."
"The combination of SciTech SNAP Graphics
IES and Trolltech's embedded offerings makes yet another
great reason to choose Linux for embedded projects," said
Hogne Tjemsland, embedded product manager at Trolltech. "Now
embedded developers can benefit from Qt/Embedded's powerful,
memory efficient API while receiving all the benefits of
accelerated graphics."
Custom packages of SciTech SNAP Graphics drivers can be
licensed directly from SciTech. SciTech SNAP Graphics for
Qt/Embedded requires an existing license to Qt/Embedded,
available from Trolltech (www.trolltech.com). The SciTech
SNAP SDK is also available form the SciTech website under
a dual-license structure (Commercial and LGPL). For more
information on the SciTech SNAP SDK please see our website
(www.scitechsoft.com) which contains the complete SDK source
code and documentation.

two flagship products: Qt(R) and Qtopia(R). Qt is a multi
platform C++ application
framework developers can use to write single-source applications
that run -- natively – on Windows, Linux, Unix, Mac
OS X and embedded Linux. Qt has been used to build thousands
of successful commercial applications worldwide, and is
the basis of the open source KDE desktop environment. Qtopia
is the first comprehensive application environment built
for embedded Linux, and is used in Sharp's line of Zaurus
