SciTech Software Provides Powerful Video Acceleration to Embedded Linux Developers On PowerPC Based Systems.

Chico, Calif., May 3, 2005 --
SciTech Software, Inc. today announced that it has completed development on its video acceleration engine, designed to bring hardware accelerated video to low power, low clock rate CPU’s, such as those typically used in embedded and industrial systems. The new SciTech SNAP Accelerator technology is included as an enhanced feature in the SciTech SNAP Graphics IES product line and currently supports ATI’s industry leading family of embedded graphics chips on PowerPC and x86 based systems running Linux. Support for additional OS’es and processor types is planned for future releases.

Developed in support of ATI’s embedded products group, SciTech SNAP Accelerator technology contains a host of features not previously available to embedded systems developers. Features such as; hardware motion compensation, which off loads much of the video overhead to the GPU, color space conversion, providing accelerated pallet management, scaling and overlay support are also all off loaded to the graphics hardware, making it feasible to run other tasks, in the back ground while the video is being rendered.

"Our ongoing relationship with ATI provides our Team the opportunity to share ideas with some of the brightest minds in our industry. This interaction helps to ensure that SciTech continues to produce leading edge, customer centric solutions,” said Andrew Bloo, Director of Sales and Marketing, for SciTech Software Inc. Adding, “Combining our software solutions with ATI’s state of the art hardware allows embedded developers to focus on project and sales goals rather than solving graphic hardware incompatibility issues.”

The first commercial implementation of the SciTech SNAP Accelerator technology is in a small-footprint, high-volume system developed for use in China. These PowerPC based systems which utilize SciTech SNAP in concert with ATI hardware, are able to access and play back MPEG 2-videos while simultaneously processing other user inputs, or application requests. This functionality is uniquely suited for use in ‘at the pump’ video systems, in ATM machines and other areas where low cost high quality computer based video is required.

SciTech’s core device driver technology takes device support to the next level of compatibility, performance, and reliability with a level of customization never before thought possible. The SciTech SNAP driver architecture reduces development time and associated costs for hardware manufacturers looking to add additional support for enterprise, industrial and embedded systems customers regardless of selected operating system. SciTech proven core device driver technology has been deployed on hundreds of thousands of machines worldwide.
